a-lab is a research and design collective practicing across spatial design (object, interior, urban, digital) and architecture; we study and design for the asymmetries of everyday life; our work sits between teaching and practice; we are grounded in Tāmaki Makaurau and in the relationships to land and place that come with practising in Aotearoa; our own position draws on a mix of Pacific, Asian, Māori, and Pākehā traditions of dwelling and knowing. 

Rather than blending these, we learn from the friction between them.
